Happy Birthday William Shatner!

Today is William Shatner’s birthday.   Some of my favorite Shatner roles are  Captain James Tiberius Kirk on the Original Star Trek series, host of Rescue 911( I loved that show), Denny Crane on Boston Legal. I also can’t forget  I like him in the Priceline Negotiator commercials on tv.

So happy Birthday to William Shatner!

Planet 51 Review

I finally watched Planet 51 last night. I loved it. Yes, its an animated movie but its got jokes that only adults would understand. Its a good sci fi movie, there are your aliens, your heroes, your enemies, and of course explosions. Got to have explosions.
There are many references to other sci fi classics. You got some Star Wars,ET, and Aliens just to name a few of the references I caught.
The basic premise of the movie is that an astronaut from Earth lands on an Alien planet and he thinks their the Aliens while in reality he’s the alien one. An Alien named Lem has to help him get back to his ship before its scheduled to leave back home for Earth or he’ll end up stranded on Planet 51.
I highly recommend if you haven’t seen the movie yet go out and rent the dvd today.

Hot Wheels Ecto 1

Back in January the Hot Wheels people released an Ecto 1 toy. The 99 cent car is hard to come by.You have to be very lucky to get your hands on one, unless you want to go to the internet auction route. The auction route should be the very last straw for a fan to get their hands on one, its where the scalpers have jacked up the prices to enourmous proportions. What’s worst are those that steal the little car out of its packaging. That’s a no no.  Just pay the dollar like everyone else or whatever outrageous price their going for online auctions.

I was one of the fortunate ones to get my hands on one a few weeks ago at a local retailer. It was meant to be because it was front and center on the shelf. Its still sitting in its packaging, till hopefully the day I get my hands on another one. I admit that I thought I would never see one let alone get my hands on one since sometimes the area I live in does not always get items that are advertised. For example Star Trek sneakers at Payless. None of my local stores got them.So I was pretty shocked when I saw and bought it. I did say ” We got one” once the elusive toy was in my hands. Nothing was going to get in my way of buying it. Even if there was some crying kid wanting the car  that was in my hands.

The details are amazing for being such a small car. If you look into the back you see a set of little proton packs. The top has the rack up there along with the other gizmos.  I’m really impressed with the details on it. It amazes me how much attention was paid to such a classic and recognizable movie car.

The back of the package where the car’s stats are listed says the following:

Born: 1984

Birthplace: Detroit, Michigan, USA

Designer: General Motors and Ray Stantz <—- My favorite detail

Specialty: With rear pull-out rack, proton packs and a distinctive wail, this refitted ’59 Cadillac was made for fighting slime.

I haven’t bought a Hot Wheels car in years since I was a kid who collected them along with my Ghostbusters stuff. So it was an experience for me to return to my routes.

My advice to those who are still looking on getting their hands on one. Don’t give up. Be patient. Keep positive. You may just get rewarded in the end.

Star Trek DVD Review

I just finished watching the Star Trek DVD. The movie is just as impressive on a small screen as the big screen of a  movie theater.  The movie still blows me away. This was my second time watching it all the way through and I loved it as much if not as more than when I saw it back in May.

The animated menu screen is awesome. It has bells and whistles that live up to the awesomeness of the movie.

I’m sure the blu ray is even better I don’t have a way of doing blu ray but I”m sure the movie is even better on that format.  I hope someday to experience it for myself.

I really like the packaging of the movie. Especially the white with black letters.

With this dvd release there have been a lot of special packaging. goodies that came with the movie. The blu ray could come in an Enterprise where the disc where held in the saucer section, another came with a free replica of the badges,  FYE is offering a special edition in a steelbook.    Too many awesome versions so little funds.

This is a must own, would be a great stocking stuffer for the trekkie, trekker, or geek in your life. This is a worthy must own worth every penny.

To read more of my thoughts on the movie check out my previous review here.

Stargate Universe

Stargate Universe or SGU has been on for three weeks now. All I can say is I hope it improves. This definitely not your mama’s Stargate. It is more action packed, sexy, and drama filled.
One thing the show really needs to get is set leadership structure. There is a lot of feuding among those stuck on the ship. I miss the set team and the dynamic it bought. There are way too many people trying to do what is best for them and not the whole. The scientist vs civilian vs military hoopla craziness is all I can say. They all need to start together or they aren’t going to make it. I have a hard time keeping up with all the stuff going on and with who.
I really hope things change soon or I’ll be jumping ship.

Star Trek Themed Cereal

I finally got my hands on two whole boxes of the limited edition Star Trek Cereal from Kellogs. I had been checking all the stores and had friends checking as well. I finally found it on Sunday.

This morning for breakfast I had a bowl for breakfast. The cereal is like Lucky charms but Star Trek themed. The taste reminds me of Lucky Charms including the sugary milk I drank after wards.
There are five marshmallow shapes, a red delta shield, blue, yellow,Planet Vulcan, and Earth .  The cereal bits are called galaxy.Their the perfect size for the cereal.

I was happy that the cereal didn’t taste like crap like some of the other limited edition cereals that have been made in the past.

So if you have been hesitant about getting a box because you thought it’d be crap its not. its well worth the price which for me was $2.00 , a price cheaper than some of the other cereals out there.

Happy 25th Anniversary Ghostbusters!

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the movie Ghostbusters. It is my favorite movie of all time and one of those things i have not lost an interest in all of my 27 years of life. I may have been two when GB came out but it has been a favorite of mine my whole life. I still have my original 1984 Stay Puft Marshmallow man. One of the things I still have from my childhood.

Next week we see the release of the highly anticiapated video game, a third movie is in the works,  the movie is getting released on blu-ray,and there is a whole bunch of new merchandise out there. So this year is a good year for a fan.

Happy 25th Ghostbusters!
