Well it’s been a  few weeks now since the movie came out so I felt it was time for me to give my review on the movie.

It was one of those movies that lived up to the hype. It was well worth the extra wait. I have been looking forward to this movie since the day it was announced and then more so after I got my hands on the teaser poster which proudly hangs on my wall.

The trailers did a very good job of not leaking any of the info regarding Nimoy’s appearance in the movie, we all knew he was going to be Spock but not what his part in the movie. Thanks to those who prevented that from happening.

The actors were great in their rolls. They had those quirks fans could recognize. The “I’m a doctor not a… ” “I’m giving it all she got.” ” live long and prosper.” etc were in the movie as well and would have been missed if they had not been there.

Chris Pine turning Kirk into his own worked out very well. His take was so new and fresh it was enjoyable.

Zachary Quinto’s Spock was dead on. He had all the quirks along with making  Spock his own. He brought something new but it was still Spock.

I knew Leonard Nimoy was to be in the film and was incorporated very well. I was waiting for him to appear on screen. The old Spock worked well in the story line.  The time travel thing and Star Trek have gone hand in hand for a long time.

The special effects were great. It was good that there was nothing spared on that one.

The product placements were surprising as well as entertaining as well. Especially, since it was in a Star Trek movie. At least there wasn’t any sighting of the Burger king  King with a Whopper or something or worse the kingons who want to steal your glasses from Bk.

Every time the Vulcan salute was shown on screen my friend and I and some others in the theater also did the salute.  including the guy next to me with a bad case of gas. Talk about a gas giant. It made it a more fun movie going experience especially since there was no crying babies or couples making out except on screen.

I loved the action scenes especially Sulu and his fencing. It was great to see that in there.  I would have been a little disappointed if it hadn’t and they made him like a wrestler or something. Though that would have been entertaining as well.

People need to remember this is a revamping of Star Trek. Yes, some things were changed from what we know but its Star Trek its broken its own rules, changed timelines, etc  in the past.

You can like it or you can hate it we are all entitled to our opinons but do not need to bash those whose opinion differs.  Star Trek is about acceptance.

This movie was definitely one of those ones you can see over and over again that has continued to keep it one of the top grossing movies of the summer.

I have high hopes that there wil be a sequel but if not then this was a great stand alone movie.

With all the promotions going on I was going in full trek mode. I bought kellog’s,visited Burger Kings, etc. I even won a Star Trek messenger bag through a twitter contest. I finaly sent out my points for a free shirt from Kellog’s.My hardest part of that was to decide which color shirt out of the three options I wanted.  I finally went with Blue. I almost went with red but then the thought of all the red shirt jokes out there would haunt me everytime I wore it.  Blue was more logical in the long run.

Burger King my goal was to get a complete set of the four glasses, and the sixteen toys.At first I thought the toys would be the hardest to achieve with such a short time to do so.  The glassess I was fortunate enough to get within the first few days or the promotion. Had to eat a whopper jr meal just to be able to buy them at the 1.99 price.

My goal then was to get all the toys. All 16 noise making, realistic, movie based toys. I lucked out when one of the local Bks on two seperate occasions went out back and got out toys for me. I just finished the last four this past Friday. it took three weeks to get all of them. I opened mine and will be displaying them on a shelf.  They are some of the coolest toys I have ever seen come from a kids meal promotion. I was glad i didn’t have to buy a kids meal each time or that would have been crazy. I ate two kids meals the whole time. I’ll be sad to see the promotion end and the advertising gone from the resturants but it was fun while they lasted. This was my official first time  dealing with a  Star Trek promotion from a fast food place and it was awesome.

My current Trek promotion addiction is the Eggo waffles. There are over 25 different desings. The waffles do need a warning saying “resistance is futile” because it is hard to resist them.  It is also highly illogical to enjoy them all warm and covered in syrup.

I wish all these promotions could “live long and prosper” but as the saying goes “all good things must come to an end.”

Thanks to an ad on a tv channel i found out about this search engine that rewards you with points for just doing a normal search. You may not get points everytime you search but you can earn points pretty quickly. I’ve already earned my second prize.  The site also offers contest and giveways. if you follow their twitter or blog you can earn points through special secret words. I don’t endorse stuff unless it works and this works. I’m happy. Use this link and it’ll hook you up with three points to start off with. Happy searching! http://swagbucks.com/refer/unknowntrekkie
